Does anyone use 30 cal 110gr gmx on game? I had worked up a nice load in my 300wm at 3700fps but a friend talked me out of the rifle before i got a chance to use it on a hunt. I now find myself with a 308 win until i decide on which barrel length to order for a 338 fed swap. Having some gmx on hand and reading manuals i figure i could better 3200fps from the 308win. Should make for a decent back up should i be able to hunt a bear this spring. Just looking for experiences on game

Me too, like to hear more. Im currently dialing in a 308 compact with 110 vmax 3100fps ut a 16.5 barrel for dogs. Looking to do more with the gmx, like deer.

I'm working on loads for my 12.5" barreled Rem 700 PCR short rifle in 308 Win so far I've settled on 110gr V-Max and 125gr Accubonds.

I have not worked up the loads yet but TB's quick load program shows with IMR3031 powder I should be able to push the 125gr Accubonds to 2700fps .

I did not know that there was a 30 cal 110gr GMX bullet until reading this thread it is definitely something to look at though.

Another bullet I would like to try but can't find any are the 120gr Barnes TAC-TX designed for the 300 Blackout I should be able to push them to 2700fps as well they would be an awesome bullet for my short 308 Win.

I think that the 110 grain GMX would be ok on deer, but at the velocities you are talking about, I am thinking it may shed its pedals. It also may start off fast, but would slow down really quick.

I saw a 4 yr old bull moose shot with a 165gmx 300 wsm 250 yds quartering to the shooter took out 3 ribs threw the heart and Rome the off shire shoulder , no bullet recovery the moose hopped around for 20 yds fell dead
I was Impressed

The 300 blk 110 / 120 blacktips are for 300blk velocity and full expansion from 2000fps to like 1200fps your going to have issues with them from a 308 and such. They make 110gr / 130gr TTSX blue tips that are for the higher velocities and expand down to 1800ish that would be better for 308 and such.

I found some 110gr blacktips for my 300 blackout I have not had a chance to work them up yet tho but I have a 16" 308 and not going to use them for that

I'm not so sure about your conclusions on bullet performance in my case I am looking for better hunting performance from 150 yards to 300 yards I believe these 120gr TAC-TX would work.

As I posted above the 120gr TAC-TX would be doing appr 2700fps from my 12.5" barreled 308 Win here is a report of a 23" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 30-30 shooting these bullets at 2630fps so almost identical muzzle velocity and 2260fps impact velocity at 160 yards.

Well barnes themselves say not to use the black tips in anything but 300blk. I'm sure it can be done but there is obvious issues that might occur because it's designed for much lower velocities so a much different bullet design then the TTSX. I'm sure if you light loaded it to minimum velocity from a 308 it would be fine but I think it has a max speed of 2400 or 2500 recommended.

Like you said very hard to find as well. I am pushing 168gr TTSX out of my 308 16" barrel at 2600fps they expand down to 1800 hold their speed longer and have deeper penetration then a much lighter bullet. I got the 110 blacktips to use in my 10.5" 300blackout Renegade where the 110 or 130 TTSX would just be a FMJ at anything beyond point blank range

I have no interest in tsx bullets. Been there done that gave up on them entirely
The 110gr gmx holds together at 3500fps from my 300wm when hitting a sand backstop. Only did it loose major weight when leaving the barrel at 3700fps. It was just a roundish jagged mess when dug out of the bank. Im sure theyll do fine at what a 308 can push them.
I want the higher speed at impact and my style of hunting big game is not long range shooting
