11mm Talley rings for centre fire?

Hi,

I picked up a custom built target rifle in 32-40 that has a rail on top for an 11mm Talley dovetail. My Google searches haven't turned up any rings for centre fire rifles, just rimfire. This rifle is meant for shooting 200gr cast bullets at around 1400 fps so doesn't have much recoil. I could probably get away with rimfire rings, but I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a centerfire 11mm dovetail ring.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris.

I can't help you about centerfire 11 mm dovetail rings, but I have a set of Warne that clamp on 11 mm and are for 1" diameter scope tubes - has Quick Detach levers - Part No. 721LM - the label says "FITS RIMFIRE with 11 mm or 3/8" Dovetail" - the clamp had a dot on it - up or down for whatever size that dovetail was. Was a thing in old days to drill and tap a hole just in front of one or both rings - screw in a cap screw - screw head pressed against front of the ring and prevented it from sliding forward under recoil, if the clamp alone does not hold. Be aware that European dovetails might have 60 degree slopes, and North American ones might have 45 degree slopes - not getting contact to the slope is not going to assist to hold clamp against recoil.

Maybe you already know, but Weaver used to make and sell T0-1 base - for 303 British Lee Enfields - it used the Weaver (?) rimfire 3/8" clamp rings for 3/8" dovetails - instructions said to slide that front ring up to the stop - put the rear one wherever you needed - did not seem to be a distinction between rimfire and centerfire rings for that service. Not real sure there is a distinction among the rings - maybe just about the clamping / recoil handling system?

Hi Chris;
Not aware of any made specifically for centerfire.
Recently, I've been shooting a Ruger No. 1 that I re-barreled to 6.5 X 47 Lapua. I made an aluminum 11mm dovetail mount, bought a set of $16.00 Amazon 1" X 11mm dovetail rings just to "see how bad they could be". One of the rings had a vertical set screw which I initially just screwed down hard to the rail. After a few shots I could see the rings were moving on the rail. Then I drilled a hole for the set screw to engage and I'm now at somewhere North of 150 rounds through it with no more signs of movement. (and the $16.00 rings seem to be just fine)

What said above. Spring airguns can make rings walk on the dovetail. So people use mounts with more clamping force, plus ones with a stop pin.

Is the dovetail curved or flat like a 10/22 mount?

Depending how much rail you've got, I'd look at some rings (mount) designed for springer airgun. BLK make some nice stuff

Or you can go a little more fancy ($) with something like a Rusan Roll-off Mount (available in 11mm)

IIRC Skinner sights makes centrefire mounts for Talley rings and swear by them for many centrefire applications. I don't think 32-40 would be outside of the application but obviously picatinny is more popular.

Per above, you can get robust 11mm optics mounts or also conversion clamps to picatinny (and then use lower rings on top).
