12(3) SA80s

Ah I didn't know they were converted from L98A1s, that explains a lot.

I know I've spoken to someone who's got one and they were sure it was a converted full-auto, but it could be hard to tell, the actual trigger group had been messed with but then the L98A1s have the same trigger group anyway.

Anyone got an idea on how many were imported?

The only difference between them is there is no gas system in them. All Wilkie did was put the gas system back in them. I had an old Gunrunner that had the advertisement for them. I believe Mil Arm had one when I was a kid, I remember holding one when I was with my dad. I was just a little guy back then.

I saw one at a gunshow in Vancouver many years ago.
Early 90's, probably...

IIRC, the owner said his was a converted auto.
This would be before the 12-3 CA class came into effect.

I asked a similar question several years ago and was under the impression that a limited number of SA80s had been imported as converted full auto. The numbers mentioned were 20 - 30. There were a few replies to the effect that a handful were still and one stored and shot at a range with some regularity.

Back in the early '90's I spoke with a guy that used to work for Peter and he told me that he unpackaged the 20 Converted Auto SA80s when they came in and purchased one of the best ones for himself.

He gave the impression that only 20 came into Canada and they were all Converted Autos. The two that I have came across since then were both C/As.
