No experience with the scopes mentioned. IMO Near makes some of the finest rings and bases around, I have put a few of their setups together and am quite impressed. Check with Richard at nearmfg.com if your interested.
I have th 12x42 BR with the NP-R2 reticle on my 308 with a 20 MOA base I have enough adjustments to get to 1000. I have learned having a 1/8 dot reticle on another scope that the hash marks on the NP-R2 is better for hold off in heavier wind for the 308 and the subtenstions are visible in lower light conditions.
The BR has 40 minutes of elevation
If you are shooting comp where the only dragging of the gun is from the trunk to the firing line get the BR. If your a Professional or engage in tactical matches where guys are hard on gear stick with the NXS.
the Br is $500 less and the objective lense has finer tuning capability then the NXS.
I will say that the 12x42 is a pretty specific scope your not going to deer hunting with it like you can with the 5x22 and MAYBE the 8x32
Mine is currently sitting on a rem 700 short action with a Mike Rock 5R 26in barrel.
I have badger rail and nightforce steel rings wish I had got the ultralight model to save on weight for FTR class.

I've been contemplating the same thing for about 6 months now. NXS or Benchrest model. As of now I'm looking at the Benchrest 12-42x. The cost difference, the 1/8 moa adjustments and there has been speculation that the glass is a bit brighter have made me lean towards this model.
The 1/8 adjustments are the big one, since it makes a bigger difference the farther away you go.
Since this isn't a hunting rig, or tactical model I think the Benchrest version makes more sense. When I eventually get one, it'll be going on a Custom Rem 700 7mm wildcat. 27" barrel #8 contour (heavy bugger). This rig is designed for accuracy and 1000 yard ranges (meant to shoot the 180 grain Berger VLD).
At least that's the thinking at this point. It's always subject to change
