I installed a 12.5" barrel from Hical that comes with a small brass front bead ... it shoots about 4" too high at 10 yards ... I need to install a taller sight but no sure what height I need. Can someone with a 12.5" barrel that shoots on measure the height of the front sight to middle of bead for me??

Much appreciated.

Not much help but I used the front blade off my Guide Gun, drilled a hole in the bottom and epoxied it over the bead on my old 12.5" grizz. I checked with a boresighter first and it was bang on with Rem low recoil slugs @ 25 yds. I don't know the height of it. An easy way to determine what height you need is to make a front sight out of tape and cut it down a little at a time until its shooting where you want.

A typical pedestal for a bead would get you closer for sure but you could also mock up a front sight and dial it in custom for your gun.
Do you have a hot melt glue gun?
I've hot glued a flat sandwich style tooth pick to a front sight before and then trimmed it at the range till it was bang on to get the height figured out.
You could even just put a dab of hot glue right on the bead and build it up then shave it down at the range.

Mine is bang on to POA at 70-100y.....

My bead is .180. From the inside of the barrel it's .237..... Cylinder bore (no choke)

I believe mine came from can-am... I also assume mines Chinese.....

I'm also shooting reloads..... Lee 1oz slugs with a trap wad.

Excellent input, thank you gents. Notsorichguy... is .180" from outside of barrel to center of bead? This will give me an idea of starting range and then I can dial it in using the above suggestions.

Top of barrel to top of bead...... I measured with crappy tire digital callipers, so it could actually be .175 or .185......

I'm not positive (the barrel came with that bead installed) but it looks like a typical pedestal bead......

I can take a pic, but it will likely be after supper before I could post it.....

My current bead height is .165" from top of barrel to top of bead so I need a taller bead then you. I'm going to have to "play" as suggested by Can-down and Supernova...aaahhhhhh... I hate it when I have to play with my guns :)

After reviewing aftermarket front sight options and finding nothing that I consider suitable, I have decided to make my own custom front sight. It really is ideal as I can sight it in and customize to the exact height I need. It also helps when you have a great machine shop with a CNC and plenty of brass bar stock :) I started making it today and when it is finished and installed I will post pictures here.

Here are a couple pictures of the sight in progress. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the sight so that the new sight can simply sit on top of the existing bead sight. The sight still requires polishing to remove tooling marks.

The sight is currently very tall as I have not shot the gun with a temporary tape sight (as suggested above thanks guys) to figure the exact height I need. I will then mill the new brass sight to the correct height. After that I need to affix and I am leaning towards JB weld as I will have to refinish the barrel if I braze it in place... still undecided though.
