So the CFC has now advised me that I cannot get a temport storage out of country for my 12(6) handguns. If I move to Florida and take them with me they will be removed from the registry and not permited back in if i should move back to Canada. So the question is...should I just leave them here and register them to my condo in Toronto? or pull them out

thats a tough situation i have had so much trouble moving my restricteds around i'm thinking about just giving them up i would prolly put them in storage costly but its the safest route good luck!

Unless all your family is going with you, I'd register them at a family members residence and maintain sole possession.

If they can issue Firearms Licences to Americans and register their guns under the Canadian system then why can you not retain your registration? Sounds like you are talking to an jerk who does not know the law. Can he/she actually point to a section of the Act that states that your guns must be removed from the system? Where it say in the Firearms Act that the guns loose their status or that you can not have the guns registered to you?

Will you be able to take all your 12(6) guns into the USA? I thought they had some import restrictions that may apply if the guns were below a certain size.

I would leave them here registered to you but stored somewhere, maybe with another 12.6 holder, they might store them for you in return for "usage" rights :)

There is a way, it isn't impossible as I know someone who went threw this already.

I will store them for you here in Canada and look after them every day! ;) Just keep them registered in Canada regardless of what happens. Your Condo would be the best bet for now unless the laws here get worse.

I'd store them here until you're sure you're staying down there or not...then either bring them down with you, or you'll have them when you come back.

I thing the guy at the CFC what thinking you were EXPORTING them. You can leave them registered to an address here, take them with you on a US Form 6NIA, get an ATT to the border with a return date say a year from now. If you don't bring them back when the ATT says, just get another ATT for the date you want.

The main thing is you keep them registered to an address in Canada. An ATT does not change the primary registration address.

Keep them here, you can buy more when you get down there, you are buying a gunshop aren't you!

Now my second point, why are you even talking about coming back before you even get there?

We are having some

issues about health insurance etc for my 7 year old. They are also saying they may have to review our entry as they are saying his autism is an undisclosed permanant disability which they were un aware of:(. Gonna be a back and forth for awhile me thinks

keep them registered here so you don't lose your status. Just because they are registered here doesn't mean they have to be here either. You have an ATT that allows you to go to matches down south right? so you are taking them with you to the match, or whatever.

Those dirty bastids.

So long as one stays here you are still grandfathered. Leave the one you expect to use the least and take the others on a temporary import permit from ATF.

Exactly what i was going to say. If it's just out of fear of loosing your 12(6) status. Leave one here so when you come back, you can still re-register all the ones you left with. If you dont want to leave behind any of the ones you currently own. Buy another one that's dirt cheap and leave that one behind. :D Just make sure it isnt one that will turn into an antique on you while your away. Then you would be screwed :(

If it were me I'd remove the barrels and leave them in Toronto. Then you keep 12(6). You can always get replacement barrels in Florida, depends on how obscure the guns are.

A perfect solution for someone with lots of money to spend... ;)

You should keep one as a grandfathered 12.6 and store it in Canada.

If you sell the others on the E/E than you can fund your new purchases in the USA as our dollar is almost at par. Also consider that the guns you have in USA if prohib wont be able to come back to Canada if you decide to move back.

Keep the ones in Canada registered in Canada. They"ll probably be worth more up here anyway.

Good luck
