12(6) Endorsement

Hello all! First post here. It seemed like a good place to post it.

I'm taking my PAL and RPAL course in a few weeks, and would like to clarify some information.

My father has a 12(6) endorsement on his current PAL. He also possesses some prohibited firearms, passed down throughout the family.

When I make my application to the government, is there anything I need to "do" or put on my form for me to inherit this 12(6), or do they just look it up automatically?

I realize I am not "Grandfathered" officially, but I should be able to lawfully inherit or have his firearms transferred to me (but no others) via the 12(6), correct?

Anyone have any experience with this? :)

I believe it only applies to pre '46 12.6 prohibs. That
being said, make sure he buys what you would like
later. Also, many newer prohibs can be had cheaply
(few grandfathered owners) and then have a longer
barrel installed, or even caliber changed to non- prohib.
Contact the CFO about when exactly you can inherit.
Keep in mind if your father doesn't always have at least
one prohib he loses his 12.6.

AFAIK you just apply for the standard RPAL. When you inherit an approved firearm you will get 12.6 possession on the back, but not acquisition. This is typically a 12.7, but the licenses now say 12.6. He can transfer a firearm to you while he still alive.

Thanks a lot guys :) Very helpful information.

So to clarify, I would not see a 12(6) or a 12(7) endorsement until such time as he transferred these firearms to me?

Is this verified during the transfer process (where you call for verification)? And if so, do they then send me a new card?
