Hey guys I don't know much about shotguns but i am looking at buying an older shotgun from a friend. It is jc higgins 12 g 2.75 chamber and has a muzzzle break and 6 choke positions. It is a pump and I am wondering if it would do the job for most bird hunting and also take slugs for deer.
Any comments would be helpful.
thanks or you can send a pm

It will work just fine. The adjustable choke will provide adequate choke constrictions for all applications. When using slugs don't be afraid to try different settings. Sometimes the one you don't consider using will shoot the best with slugs. I have used Poly Choke style chokes for years and have no complaints. Some shooters object to the "look" of the device but it doesn't bother me. Keep the threads treated with never seize or similar product.
cheers Darryl

Should be OK. I had a really inexpensive shotgun with an adjustable choke for a while and was reasonably happy with it.

The adjustable chokes gained a bad reputation for inconsistent patterns so the current state of the art tends towards screw in chokes. But still I suspect you may be satisfied with this system.

My advice would be to avoid shooting steel shot through this.
