I love a bear defense thread no matter what day of the week it is. My vote is for Challenger slugs or anything reasonably similar. I have no experience with the Federal penetrators, but would love to try some. The Score slugs look promising too, but I haven't tested them on anything yet.
What kind of bear?
Keep it simple. For black bear, Buck and slugs ... full power ... you want penetration and black bears aren't made of adamantium.
Grizzly and bigger .... the jury's still out .... they might be made of adamantium. A high powered rifle might be a better choice, but shotguns can shoot cracker shells; although, buck and slug makes a nice boom sound too ... you know .... when shooting into space

ABSOLUTLY!!!!! I have a rifled barrel I purchased. I must say the groups at 50 yards with open sights are amazing!!!!!! Yes the factory barrel you can't shoot a slug as it will wobble down as it's oversized. Thats why I purchased the slug barrel!
