...Happy new year all,

I need a quick education on 12 guage flares. What types [if any] are safe to fire from a 14" Dlask barrel [cylinder bore i would think] with a 2 3/4"
-3" chamber on a remington 870 I built as a hiking, bear defense and survival gun. I have seen the flare sets complete with pistol at Crappy-Tire, as well as just a pack of three replacement flares on thier own, and I have no idea if they will work safely in my shotgun. I have also seen 12 ga. flares sold by Elwood Epps I believe for roughly 12 dollars and wondering if they work and are effective for wilderness signalling purposes.

Thx. for any replies,
Mad Mikey. :p

The flares sold at my Canadian Tire store are now made extra long as if to make them only good to be fired in the Orion plastic flare guns. The flares I have( bought a few years ago) are little short ones as most flare guns have short chambers to prevent someone firing a regular 12 gauge round and hurting themselves. Do an ADVANCED SEARCH here of "flares" quite a bit on flares and bearbangers, THE SHOOTERS EDGE at the top of the page has had flares and bearbangers in stock at reasonable prices in the past.
