Looking for load info for 2 1/2 inch 12 gauge shells. Not getting anywhere with the search engine, so...

I inherited a SxS english gun that is chambered 2 1/2, and am less than enthused about reaming the chambers longer.

It IS a smokeless gun, so no requirement to go black powder.

Looking for reload info, hopefully with components that I can still buy. I figure I'll be stuck cutting down cases to length, and likely having to roll crimp the shells, vice star crimping, but have not been seeing much in the way of load info for the old beast.

Thanks!
Trevor

Kent makes a 2 1/2" shell that is available from some of the dealers here on the board. Its a bit pricey compared to regular 2 3/4" shells but well worth it for the piece of mind. I use it in my SxS's and love it. Fiocchi makes a short 12 gauge shell as well but I have not tried it myself. As for reloading you should check out some light loads in the reloading manuals that the Cowboy action shooters are using . You should be able to figure out a load appropriate for what you want.

Hogdon has data for short shells. Ballistic Products sells the short European cases and wads and has data for short shells too. Will Bilozir of Dewinton AB, (Bismuth Reloading Supplies) is the Canadian dealer for Ballistic Products.

Call Kent Canada, 1-800-844-1880, they can put you in touch with a Kent dealer. The Gamebore 2 & 1/2's are great use #7's on pheasant.
Britt #7 is equal to our #6 and so on........
Cheers & good shooting!
