I have a 12 gauge semi auto barrel which has been shortened and a screw in choke tube installed in it. The gun's action will not function reliably with light loads and I want to know if opening up the gas ports in the barrel will cause more gas to flow to the piston to operate the action. Sounds like it should work but am wondering if anyone else has run into the same problem. Or is the barrel too short to ever function the action reliably? Is there a limit to how much the ports can be opened?
In the past, I have opened up the gas ports a few thousands to make several autoloaders function more reliably with light target loads with long barrels. Worked like a charm.
Thanks in advance for your input.
