looking for someone who reloads shotgun shells to make me some 2 3/4 black powder saluting blanks, recently had to import some from spain and it ended up costing me 2$ a shell, i believe that cost can be drastically cut down.

or if you know anywhere in Canada that these can be purchased that would be excellent

the ones i purchased were the RIO 12 gauge law enforcement saluting blanks, imported by MAXAM link attached

http://www.maxamlawenforcement.com/media/Default%20Files/Outdoors/RIO%20GENERAL/MAXAM%20LAW%20ENFORCEMENT%20CATALOGUE.pdf

i would need about 25 produced just for a trial to see if they are the same as the rio ones as they seem to work but just the cost of the round itself plus import fees is ridiculous

preferably around the calgary area, but not necessary as they can be shipped to me, i am not sure as to specs of what goes into the actual cartridge itself, but im sure someone that knows anything about reloading can tell me

if you could let me know your unit cost to produce them, and how much you want for your time that would be great

Probably not legal to have a hand loader without an ammunition manufacturing permit sell you ammunition, even blank ammo.

Specialty ammo always costs more, but maybe there is a better source someone knows of.

I run guns have training blanks ( for retreivers /hunting dogs ) then there's bear bangers . Or you could just cut the edge /rim off some cheep shot shells and dump out the shot /lead out ( will not cycle semi automatics) don't forget there's still a shot cup that will fly out !! Did that to one of my brothers in law put in confetti and sparkles !

Not sure of the end use desired by the OP but suspect as he is from Cowtown that maybe a "Guns of the Old West" show might be involved. If that is the case then you have to be very careful with the contents of any round used. The CFO will have a "no Projectile" clause in the permit and a shotgun wad is a "projectile" in their world.

I tried to make some Shotgun blanks one time for a Cowboy Action parade demonstration but they were a dismal failure unless I used something to build pressure ahead of the powder resulting in some sort of projectile that nullified their legality. They just went "poof" and blew unburnt powder out the bore.

I would visit Pro-Line Sports in Calgary and ask for "Brian" he may just have what your wanting on hand.

I got some Lightfield NOVA blanks from SFRC a while back.....little pricey though, if I recall...
Ever since I've been making them with blackpowder......there's a little tutorial I did on another forum if you're interested.

At two bucks a shell there is no way you could cover the cost of components, the value of a hanloaders time an Canadian Courior shipping to you for any less, that is just the reality of the situation.

Not sure how shotgun blanks are made but I believe rifle/pistol blanks require a special die to crimp the mouth of the brass case (prob. with cardboard wad to retain powder) which allows the pressure to build before releasing. I think CH4D can supply the die.

Here's an article from Starline Brass

just getting back to this thread now, the shells are used in a commercial application, i did talk to some shot shell manufacturers and they say they would specifically need a black powder license, you guys had a lot of good tips, but so far nothing has panned out, i went to cabelas and bass pro and purchased some primers, wads, FFFG powder etc and i am going to see if i can replicate the load, which from what it looks like i definitely can, i found some decent youtube tutorials and i am going to follow those

just the fact that it costs that much to import was essentially an empty black powder target load is crazy
