I'm looking for reasonably priced 12 gauge blanks for this camp perimeter alarm: http://icebearalarm.com/

For whatever reason 12 gauge blanks cost more than real ammo at wholesale sports. Drives me nuts that you could remove an expensive component of the ammo (the shot) fill with cheap wadding and then charge more $$.

So anyone know the best brand/place for these 12g blanks?

LeBarons lists Winchester blank 12ga, smokeless powder, at $19.94 for a box of 25 shells. No idea on availability though.
Even in the US the cheapest 12ga blanks I could find with Google where still around $15/box of 25.

I've never seen blank anything that's cheaper than loaded ammo.
It's all supply and demand. There is a large demand for ammo so lots of companies make it and can do so in huge quantities which means cheaper.
There is little demand (relatively) for blanks so smaller production runs means higher prices.
It doesn't matter if the materials going into it are less expensive if the labour costs more (due to smaller batches).

Wanstalls had zombie bangers that make a big bang. They weren't cheap you could just take the shot and wad out and simply put paper as filler.

The thing is how many are you really going to use you don't need that many you could swap it out with bear bangers that go about 50 yards and go boom they should work well even when they're not loaded in a shotgun.

If you reload you could just make them and then it's cheap to do. Some gun powder some shells a hand loading kit for 30 bucks and a hammer (rubber)

We have always used the Winchester 12ga blanks for our dog training. We buy them in flats to get a bit cheaper but yes they are more expensive than regular 12 ga rounds
I reload also and have tried various suggestions but have always went back to the factory blanks to get the sound right for the dogs. Last batch I think the crew ordered came from lebaron. Not easy to find on a shelf that is for sure

Pretty decent reason for blanks. Though having it too close to camp may scare the hell out of you. I always wondered why guys would carry blanks/12 gauge bear bangers in a gun. If I'm in need of my shotgun I'm not really into scaring a predator away.
