I'm heading for the deep woods this wknd and am looking for 12 gauge flares that can be fired from a shotgun. If anyone knows of a dealer in the GTA area who carries these or an online dealer who can do next day shipping I would be very grateful for the info.

Yes, I know, I should plan ahead earlier and better

Yep, CT near me has the ones you can fire from a launcher. I was hoping to get ones I can fire from a shotgun since I'll already be taking that.
Far as I know, the ones you use from a launcher won't work in a shotgun?

Typically marine stores carry handgun looking launchers that shoot a 12g flare. I'm not talking about those handheld pen launchers.
Give some local marine shops a call

Thanks, will try leBarons. Thanks for the heads up on the mess. I don't plan to shoot them for fun, if I need to fire them, cleaning the barrel is the least of my worries :)

Lebarons and mountain equipment co-op carry them

Edit: FYI, they will leave your barrel a mess. Lots of sooty crap to scrub out.

If you're deep in the bush, who do you think will see and respond to as flare? Nobody responds the three shots. Just curious.

I'm a licensed amateur radio operator, my portable rig has a tested range of about 100km, more than enough to reach the outside world if necessary. Flares would be to assist someone who is already looking, not to call for help.

those Orion 12 gauge flares seem to fit their plastic launcher as well as a shotgun. They measure 3 1/4 inches long, which is the length of a fired 3" magnum round. Because they are narrow at the end, I've shot them from my 12G SxS without problem. They aren't cheap, but good to have around

"Ammo supply Kate" had both bear bangers and flares for sale on here. You should be able to search for the thread.
Lots of these products are corrosive. Clean as you would surplus 7.62x39.

Margo Supplies in High River AB has 12g flares and bear bangers. Bangers are $40/box of 25 and flares $14/5rds.

A pal from Alaska told me a hilarious story which had me laughing my culo off;

His pal tried to fire a marine 12ga flare from his shotgun and this is what occured: He fired, and the flare did not exit the barrel. A few seconds later the middle of the barrel started to glow red hot and the front half drooped down like a floppy dong.

Not sure I'd try it myself.

Well if you properly plan your trip People will know when your overdue and call the Cops. Search teams will be dispatched to look for you. See a chopper or search team off in the distance, flare will help you be seen! Better than sitting on your butt waiting for someone to stumble across you. Rather have a couple with me than not.

I've also heard of this happening. Magnesium burns very hot :)

Ive used these in my Remington 870 in both the flares and the bear bangers, worked well never had an issue

Exactly the kind I got, ended up picking them up in stock at Lebarons on the way up North. Didn't have to use them fortunately, but have been added to my kit.
Just curious, it says open choke only, would improved cylinder be "open" enough??

By your question aboutIMPROVED CYLINDER choke,i believe you must be NEW to firearms..... I strongly suggest you carry a GPS to report your location on your HAMset and not rely on flairs. p.s. check expiry date on your flairs too. good luck.
