Hello,

Wondering if anyone else here has had the opportunity to put this thing through heavy use. Since it is made of lighter composite materials, I would think it would have an impact on it's longevity and long term reliability.

I cannot find ANY good articles or reviews (not even mention) of this gun in google. It's not even on the Winchester website!

Also, given that it is supposed to have a shorter forcing cone, does anyone know what the impact would be of firing 2"3/4 shells in it? Any danger of damage?

Thanks,
Patrick

I don't think they make them anymore, that's why you can't find it on the website.

I also thinks that it has a lengthened forcing cone.

if it's chambered for 3" shells , then it doesn't matter how long the forcing cone is if your shooting 2 3/4 " shells. if the forcing cone is lengthened, it's to reduce recoil. any chamber length can use shells that are shorter than the max shell length for that particular chamber.if you shoot longer shells i.e. 3.5" in a 3" chamber, then the shell opens into the forcing cone, pressures rise too high and at the least you get a lousy pattern.

If it is chambered for 3 inch shells it will safely shoot 2 3/4 inch shells, but it does matter how long the forcing cone is. Some have been known to taper the cones over several inches with claims of significant reduction of perceived recoil.

PatricK, I do not know what happened to the light version of the SX-2. It was not in last years Winchester Catalog and this year the SX-2 is no longer produced and its successor is the SX-3. It is a lighter version of the SX-2. I have tried the 3 inch field version with composite stock. I only shot it with target loads, but I sure liked it. I have seen a few at sporting shoots and a friend has one that he uses for geese and a back ip sporting gun. In my opinion the SX-3 is a winner.
