Like your style,remember forgiveness is always easier than permission.Wear them out ,of course it happens have a model 12 3 inch 50's version had way too many 3 inch through it when I got it but it was a rare and beautiful gun, the gunsmith said everything literally needed replacing ,so we did it ,no regrets,and I agree with claybuster better quality SEEMS to keep the frustration level down ,good luck:p :p :p

Nice to have a hobby/profession that can help to finance more guns.

Coupla more gigs - no sweat. Have a buddy that used his Fender to pay off his mortgage AND buy a few good pieces. By day, he was a mild mannered
municipal employee ! The bass supplied the gravy.

You should never regret buying a good shotgun ... and no, highly unlikely you'd ever "wear one out" ( I've been trying .... )

I've an LC Smith double hammerless, late 1800's manufacturing the gun had been used enough that the right barrel had worn through, it had been shortened just enough to keep legal, but you could still dent it enough with your thumb that you wouldn't use. I keep it dissassembled to stay legal. All serial #s match. Beautiful action, well fitted makes the new stuff look very shabby. Too bad it's no longer shootable but I'd love to have met the men who looked down it's rib.
 
3-4000 through my Remmy 1100 since I bought it used, had been used for hunting, and skeet for many years before probably seen many thousands of rounds.
I just clean the barrel, oil moving parts, light skim of oil over exterior and shes been working mint.
It fails to feed properly now and then, but usualy in very cold weather.

I keep track of how much ammo I've bought. After I buy it, it gets used in fairly short order.

It's easy enough to make a rough estimate if you are a regular target shooter. There are some shooters who do keep specific track of the shells they fire to track their scoring.

Back when I was still eager.... I kept a log of how many shells I went through each session. That may have lasted a few months.

Now I can probably estimate +/- a few thousand each year. I know exactly how many targets I shoot in competitions. I can add a percentage to that for shootoff targets and other misc targets related. Then I can calculate that I shoot somewhere between 2-5 targets in practice for every competition target I shoot.

If I was actually interested, I would do the math. If I was really interested I could find out how much $$$$ I actually spend on this sport. The thing is, ignorance is bliss. I'd probably puke if I saw how much I spent.:eek:

An old trapshooter I know, knows exactly. He only shoots handload and buys primer in quantities of 5000, so its easy to keep track. He also know how many registered competition shots he has ever fired. Or another guy I know counts the eyes feet and wings and divides by 6:D
