12 inch extension for barrels ...

I was reading thru my newest version of SIR's catalogue and found this 12 inch extension for 12 guage barrels ... many different types ... my Mossberg Maverick 88 included ... now my question is this;

Mossberg Maverick 88 ... why would it need a 12 inch extension when it's already 26 or 28 inches long ... are they talking about the shorty Mav 88? Sorry if it's a dumb question ...

Some people like really really long shotty barrels. They seem to think it does a better job as their hunting gun. I've seen some pictures of guns with barrels well over 30".
