Cabelas/SIR has 12-inch barrel extensions for 12 gauges that screw in like a choke tube.

I think I will get one someday for a "motorcycle shotgun" build, that enables me to carry a long-barreled shotgun easily on my street-and trail, but I'm curious as to their standard usage. Do people use them for hunting, as extensions on standard shotgun barrels? Do they make a difference? Would it be useful for, say, waterfowl? 'Cuz I know the old 10 gauge goose gun specials used to have 36-inch barrels.....

I have an 6" screw-in rifled choke tube, designed for shooting sabots thru a smooth bored barrel.
I have not seen a 12", but it is likely for a goose hunting application to keep your pattern tight?? does it say what choke it is?

A 12" longer barrel does tighten a pattern......by the same amount as stepping one foot closer to the target.

The longer barrel does increase the length of the sighting plane whiich has an effect of making the pointing a little more precise by getting the bead out further from the shooters eye.

As far as making a "motorcycle gun", it sounds like a practicle idea as long as the fixed portion of the barrel is long enough to meet the legal requirements for minimum length all by itself.
