12 or 20 gauge 870 combo?

hi, i would like to know if a 20 gauge is enough for almost everything (like protecting myself from a zombies invasion lol :p , partridge hunting (small game), shooting some slugs in the range...or do the 12 would suit more the task? (im gonna make it tactical but when i go hunting ill put it back to normal)
here my choice:

remember that i will go small game hunting with it too;) .The advantage over the 20 gauge are the barrels (the ventilated is 21" instead of 26" or 28") , and i dont know if its complicated to make shorter a 26 inch ventilated barrel in the 12 gauge combo (i like the synthetic version more )



ok next and last question for the barrels , for shooting a lots of slugs, is it better to take a rifled barrel or it dosent mather

Get the 12 gauge. The 20 gauge ammo is around twice the price of 12 gauge ammo. 12 gauge can be used for small game too, just a matter of picking the right shot size and load. Also far more versatile.
 
The 20Ga model you have pictured is a youth model with a short buttstock. Yoy might find it awkward to shoot. As far as the cost of ammo, I pay the same for lead small game loads in 12Ga and 20Ga. Rifled slugs are about the same as well, but I haven't checked out the pricing on sabot slugs for rifled barrels. You will find a better selection of 12Ga ammo though and some tactical accessories might be tough to find for 20Ga (side saddle shell holder for instance). If this is the only shotgun you will own, I would get the 12Ga. Get a turkey model if you must have a short barrel.
 
Hard to beat the combo deals too - if you price out a barrel separately, you see why it's such a good idea to get both at the same time.
 
go 12 gauge... 3.5 inch chamber if available...

12 gauge ammo is cheaper... and the 12 is more versatile... Imagine going for geese in PEI one day and you'll understand...

I have an 870 in 12ga and one in lightweight 20ga. I use the 20ga most often.

When I get a chance to hunt partridge at moose camp, I throw some slugs in one pocket, regular shot in the other (and in the gun) and go.

I've found that prices for 12ga and 20ga are pretty close right now. 12ga has a better selection, especially in remote areas.

IMHO, you can't go wrong with either one though.
