123gr SKS Projectiles in 308.

Sks Projectiles are (as a rule) .311 in diameter

308 Family =.308 in diameter

I've resized them to .308" using a Lee push through sizer.

CCI200 primers.
H4198 (Hoping to transition into CA's D4198 soon).
Crimped.
2.620" OAL.
IVI Brass.

Basically the cheapest plinking load possible short of cast.

First time ever attempting 400yds:

- 20 rounds, couldn't get a tight grouping all rounds within a 6" target at 100m (2 stoppages on rifle) all rounds crimped

Years ago, because I had bought thousands of them from Tom Higginson, I shot a lot of 215 gr Norma .311" bullets produced for the 303 British in both the 30-06 and the 308 Winchester.

The 215 gr 308 Win loads were loaded to 2400 fps, about 200 fps more than factory 30-40 Krag ammo. They were both accurate and deadly on big game in my 308 rifles.

If your loaded rounds chamber easily, they will be safe to use in that chamber.

Actually, sks ammo is typically .310 if I'm not mistaken. X54r uses .311 diameter pills. The difference would mean very little in use, as long as you work up a load and consider the fact that the slightly oversized projectile will likely increase pressures a bit.

Here's a 123gr Czech .310 steel core bullet. You'll notice there's still a layer of lead between the core and the jacket, allowing the bullet to "squish" enough.

7.62x39 projectiles are marked as .310 but they all measured .311 diameter. This includes surplus, hornady v-max 123Gr .310, and berry's 123Gr .310 plated projectiles.
I pulled a bunch of x54r surplus the projectile also measured .311 diameter.

I resized them from average of .3105" down to .3085" using Lee push through sizer, significant amounts of lube and then a tumbling afterwards. Have done a few thousand like this thus far. Use them in both my 300aac and 308 with excellent results on the cheap.
