Hi,

I have been shooting my CZ Shadow with 124 gr handloads and was wondering if anyone out there was using 147 gr.

If so, do you find any advantage in doing so.

I am a new pistol shooter and reloader and will be competing in my first IPSC tournament within the next two weeks. Should I stick with my 124 gr loads or will the 147 gr loads give me an advantage?

Any positive advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

There are basically 2 differences - accuracy and felt recoil.
If you get good accuracy with your ammo, stick with it. Felt recoil will be a bit lighter with heavier bullet but it also depends on the powder you use. 147gr bullet will shoot higher that 124gr one and you will need taller front sight. Factory Shadow's front sight is 5.5mm tall, you would need 6.0mm one.

Berry's 124gr RNDS bullet is high quality and very accurate, cheaper that 147gr ones and are easy to load with various powders as they leave more case volume under bullet. Avoid 115gr bullets, they are not as accurate (due to smaller contact patch with barrel's lands) and are much snappier. Shadow's barrel's twist rate is ideal for 124gr bullets.

Said all of the above, there is nothing wrong with shooting 147gr bullets with Shadow, but you may not see much of benefits.

CeeZer, you don't need to worry about case volume. You just shove more in and squish it down with the bullet.:) kiddding.
See you at Poco next weekend.

Better off, if flakes are large, load powder in coffee grinder and make it fine dense powder :D :D .. to decrease volume of same powder weight ...

I WAS JOKING!!!
