I am reloading 44 magnum for my revolver. My load is 17.5g of Blue dot with a 240gr bullet. with this load the bullet travels at 1250FPS. But, I have a 10 inch barrel..how much faster will the fps be. ?
When you are reloading pistol bullets,..what barrel leangth is the reloading book refering to? 4 inch, 6inch, ??
Can a person use less powder in a long barrel gun and get the same FPS ?

The book says their test barrel produced 1250 fps. It probably did, doesn't mean yours will. The test firearms used, or if it was a "universal reciever & barrel" is usually listed in the book. It makes a lot of difference if the barrel from a universal receiver is vented or not to imitate a revolvers gap between cylinder and barrel. Other variables also come into play, such as tightness of chambers and bore, etc. Velocities in books are only guidelines, not precise predictions.
Also, you are reloading cartridges, the bullet is only the projectile part. Please don't call cartridges bullets.
Yes, a person can use less powder for the same velocity in long vs short barrels.

Longwalker has pointed out some variables with revolvers and velocity.
I have noticed the bigest vatiation is the distance of the cylinder from the forcing cone. If there is very little space there, a 7 1/2 inch barrel may easily give more velocity than a 10 inch barrel on a gun that is sloppy between the forcing cone and cylinder.
This space can be measured, using automotive type feeler guages. The best 44 mag revolver I had was a Ruger Super Black Hawk. A .006" feeler gauge was a tight fit on this one.
In a rifle chamber, like a Marlin, a 44 magnum will give up to 300 fps more velocity than a revolver.
