1250 yds with a 308

So how far do you want to shoot?

First clump of trees in the low right corner is 1040yds.

Go left and up into the middle'ish of the pic where the treeline narrows and there are 2 small islands of trees ranges around a mile.

The treeline at the far end... no reading and my Swaro goes to 2km. Maybe to sunny???

Anyways, a good long ways.

Here is looking the other way from the bottom of the first pic... clearing on the left goes to at least 1700yds. The one of the far right, not a clue but well beyond 2000yds. The immediate clearing allows for shots to around 950yds

Fun, fun, fun

Fark dude, you should see S Alberta for long distance views. Its fricken crazy out here. Furthest I ever tried was 2000 yds. Cool thing was there was a road running alongside so we could drive down to the targets easy as you like.

But if we had the equipment it would be no problem to find spots out to 3+ kms.

And if you hard enough you'll find even more sparsely inhabited and open spaces in South Saskatchewan as well.

Went out again today. Same people, different location. This spot is much easier to set targets and it is closer to town. We set up at a mere 1060 yds and got on target pretty quickly. I think my third or fourth round connected on steel. At one point I went three hits in a row. The wind was quite strong and at one point I had 7 moa dialed in.

The target is a 1/2 size IPSC silhouette so any hit is a bloody good shot. Everyone rang the steal at least once so it was a good day.

I chrono'd a new load at 2470 fps. I think that will be the max I am going to get out of Varget and the 20" bbl on the Savage Precision Carbine. But that will keep it supersonic to over 1400 yds which should be good enough.

On the way out we found a couple of good shooting spots at 1220 and 1465 yds. I already know the load will do the 1220 yd distance but I am interested to try 1465 yds just to see how it works out.

I took my old 308 out to 1500 at jerrys shoot years ago. 22" barrel shooting 175 smk. 3 rounds, 1 moa. Planets aligned. Will be doable with the 208's. To get more velocity though you will have to change powders, but the 208 will carry the velocity better over distance. 1500 yards if I recall was 69-71 moa if I recall off the top of my brain. I tried the 208's for fun for a while and for best velocity I used the vit powders, and I think it was n560??? Got somewhere in the 2600 ish area, but if your using powders you ha e then....it is what it is.

It is suprising what the 308winny can do!

I managed to shoot mine out to 1400 yards before I started to have issues with bullet stability.
I was shooting a 1-12" twist and 168 bergerVLD's. A great combo in my rifle.

Eventually I will try a heavier, higher BC bullet out that far again. Its all about time and opportunity.
I have a hard time finding the time, so the opportunity naturally......! Darn it! Lol!

I will have to give the 208's a try as well.

*Sigh* Summerland.....talk about a long drive to get to such a nice spot, haha! One of these days, we'll have to drive up there and pay you a visit :) We're from the GRVD.

My pals and I hit 1,050 meters this weekend, broke my 1k cherry. One guy with a TRG, another with a 700, another buddy with his Savage 10TR, and myself with a 10TR and a 700. All .308 except the one 700. My buddy reloads for his 10TR, but I was using factory 168gr Noslers in my TR and 175gr SMKs in my 700. Strelok+ helped a lot :)

It's such an awesome feeling to see the splash on the steel plate, then hear the sound a few seconds later.

This looks fun, I would love to stretch my savage 10HS precisions legs to 1Km but being from Vancouver the its hard to find a spot with that distance within 2 hrs of here. I would love it if someone would be kind enough to post some coord's for a local spot.

Super jealous of these ranges and distances
I definitely need to go scouting around southern and central alberta to find a range I can get even to 1k I would be happy with let alone 1700 haha
