Forgive the supreme newbness, but I order my first 12 guage in the form of the 12.5 grizzlay. Was curious what all you fellas are shooting through yours? what brands run the best in yours, and whats the best deal you can find on 00 and slugs? assuming you had to go to a common place like wholesale sports or crappy tire or something. Also in your opinion for bear defense what would you say would be most lethal?

well 870's and 870 knock-offs dont like the cheap Winchester universal shells from walmart/crappy tire. Other than that they pretty well eat anything stamped 12 ga. For the best bang for your buck, find cases of Federal Top Gun 250 rds for 60 bucks. For buck and slugs you will have to try different brands/types to find what your shotgun likes best. For bear defense, ditch the shotgun and get a good old soviet RPG. Not those cheap chinese knock-off RPGs either. Dont forget to wear your helmet. If your new to shooting 12 ga. especially magnum loads then try some reduced recoil loads. They out-penetrate magnum loads at short range and are easier on the shoulder. And for lights and sound find some Federal classic 3" 1 1/4 oz slugs. They used a very heavy powder charge that produces 1750 fps in long barrelled shotguns. My 18.5" spits huge fireballs in low light with them, your 12.5" should be able to light stuff on fire
