12g Slugs

Canada Ammo has a shipment of Dominion Slugs inbound... Should be there in the next week or so. The last ones were really cheap (like 60 cents instead of $1 each), but not sure what these ones will cost.

Thread is here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1250514-DA-slugs-ETA

They're not the most accurate slugs out there, but they do a find job of splatting pumpkins at 50m!

Where can I find a case of cheap slugs? Been searching the web... not really sure what to look for.

What does a slug usually go for per shot anyways?

The last ones I bought cost me $1.05 a round before tax locally.

Your best bet is to go with Canada Ammo Dominion Arms Slugs as recommended by Phat Eagle. They're great fun and only .60 cents a round (59.6 cents a round for a case of 250).

The DA shells aren't really slugs; they're what many handloaders refer to as "round balls". They aren't seen very often so not many people know what to call them. They are also sometimes called "pumpkin balls" depending on who you ask.

A round ball that is properly sized to the specific shotguns bore (since all barrels vary a little) can be somewhat accurate but most of the reports I've read/viewed on the DA ones are 5-6" groups at 10-20 yards. If you're just looking for blasting ammo and don't really need to hit your target with the first shot, they'll do you just fine. If you are looking for a slug that can actually hit something, you're better off looking for cheap foster slugs (the hollow base kind). Consistent 4-5" groups at 50yds with just a bead sight isn't too hard to achieve with even cheap foster slugs.

I often think of round balls as like shooting really big buckshot, one at a time. After a few you'll start to see how your gun patterns (not really a "group").

If you're going to be going through a lot of slugs, add another vote for reloading. I can load 1oz Lee slugs for $.25/each if I have free lead but even paying for lead, it only brings it to around $.40/round. A used Lee Load All 2 for $40-50, a cheap melting pot for $30-40, and a mold for $30 and it wont take long to break even and start saving money. Shotgun powders are starting to become available more frequently if you look around enough as well.

I currently have cases stocked with cheap slugs. All in the 60-75 cent per round range.

Dominion Arms - round ball (CanadaAmmo)
Sellier & Bellot - rifled (Wanstalls)
Score - "thug slug" (Wolverine & Ammosupply)

Wow, I appreciate the info! I mainly just want to blast stuff. Reason I'm looking for cheaper ammo. Reloading has always caught my attention but I've never committed.

I bought a box of 2 3/4 remington sluggers, are those like a "round ball"? They aren't rifled.

Remington sluggers are your typical "Foster" type all lead slug, not a round ball like Dominion. Think of Foster slug like a badmington shuttlecock. Upon firing, they flare somewhat to the bore of the barrel and the diagonal striations allow the slug to swage through various chokes, but act nothing like sabot slugs which require a rifled barrel and spin like a bullet to stabilize.

No problem on the info.

The Remington slugs do look like round balls from the front. It's a dome-shaped slug with straight, "rifled" sides and is hollow. Without cutting the shell open it can be hard to tell though.
I found this pic showing a loose Remington slug removed from the hull:
