12ga mod choke id

Technically, choke is a measurement of restriction based on the nominal bore diameter of each, specific barrel. You take the bore diameter and subtract the diameter at the choke location. The result is the amount of choke.

I have a couple of 12ga full choke irons I want to open up for steel.
anyone know the id of 12ga mod choke off hand?
I don't have one to mic.

obliged.

Modified is .020" constriction relative to your nominal bore diameter. Full is .030 to .035" constriction. Assuming .729" nominal bore, Mod. would be .709". First, you have to determine what the nominal bore is. BTW, it may be stamped on the barrel.

As suggested by another poster, Light Mod. (i.e. .015" constriction) is a very versatile and useful choke, producing excellent patterns.
