Still in the process of getting my first shotty :runaway:

I was looking at shotgun ammo prices at CT and I noticed a couple of things; 12ga ammo is a LOT more common and it also seems to be cheaper (esp. in bulk); there was a 12ga 100 pack (IIRC target/bird) for $25 and 20ga 25 rounds for about $12-15 (can't rememebr)...I though 20ga would be cheaper because it's a smaller round

So does Can Tire simply has a bad selection of 20ga ammo or is 12ga ineed cheaper to shoot?

The 20ga was problably a high qaulity hunting ammo, the bulk pak is just normal qaulity clay / bird shells.

If you are in a pinch you could buy some shells from CTC. But do the smart thing and buy a flat(250 shells) from Bass Pro.

Priced from $43-$69 (per 250)

edit: Does CTC really have a good selection on anything??

around here 20 ga. buy the box is somewhat more expensive than 12 ga. but not a lot.your selection is usually greater in 12 ga. if your looking at bismuth or tungsten matrix 20 ga. will be a lot more.i'd buy the flat from bass pro

Canadian Tire and everyone seems to have a bad selection at this time of the year. In general the 12 gauge and the 20 gauge usually cost about the same in the promotional loads and the 12 is slightly higher in the premium loads. The 100 box that you mention is also available in 20 gauge from Federal and Winchester. In our area Canadian Tire and Walmart carries the 100 box but this time of year stock is low or out.

Most CT stores are very generec and do not have the stuff that I like! That is not the case for all Crappy Tire stores! CT in Calgary and Red Deer Alberta are owned by a gun person and their sporting section shows it! They often have high end Beretta o/u and autos such as the Tenknys sporting version, as well as Blaser, Styer and a whole buch of other good stuff that are not stocked by WSS and Russels. This year CT Calgary had a quantiy of Federal Black Cloud ammo and WSS and Russels did not.

Not much difference in the price... .410 is ridiculously expensive. The bulk packs you can get at crappy tire or wakmart do me just fine, and slugs for big game. We've got a 16ga and it's decent, but it's a pain keeping ammo stocked for it. I've several shotguns chambered in 12ga and I love it.
