14" Mossberg 590's

there is probably a reason why no one is making them, perhaps the same reason even the Chinese do not copy them?

The U.S. stopped allowing those shotguns to be exported to Canada just a few years ago.

One of WSS's purchasing reps told me they used to sell them for about $400.

I missed them too, Ardent. I wish I'd known they were selling them so cheap back then.:(

I do wish their receivers were made out of steel though, instead of aluminum.

The rep did mention there may be a way to import the 14" barrels on their own.

You would just have to have your magazine tube cut down though, as Mossberg told me that they are a different length than the 18.5" 590A1 model.

Used to want a steel receiver too, but the more I use the 590, and the more I read, I find there's zero issues with the aluminum. It's one more part that won't have a chance to rust, so I look at that as the flip side until true stainless pump shotguns hit the market.

I haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet, and I've read the testimonials of the aluminum receivers too, but I still prefer steel.

I guess I'm just a purist.:D

If you want a heavy steel reciever get a remington. The lightweight of Mossbergs is why I like them so much. And as Ardent said there are zero issues with them. A 14" 590 would be an awesome all around carry gun

ive been waiting for a company to offer a stainless pump shotgun forever. the 'nickel plated' thing doesnt do much for me.
any idea why none have been made? an 870 type receiver isnt exactly hard to machine, i cant imagine stainless being an unsuitable material...

Beats me too. I know Winchester I believe it was put out some with stainless barrels (not the 1300 Marine, some obscure model I once read about). Ruger's made the Red Label O/U in true stainless, so there's no issues with material strength in the thinner barrels of shotguns (plenty of stainless handgun barrels out there too). I'd buy a quality, real stainless pump in a heartbeat.

I got 2 590's coming in 20 inch barrels if you do find a way to get a 14" barrel in, let me know,I would be interested and yea I guess you would have to buy the shorter mag tube also!
Maybe a combined order would reduce the import costs!
Anyone else ?

I called the CDN mossberg rep a couple of weeks ago about getting the parts to convert the mossberg over. He took the part #s I gave him. Said what he could get and then asked what dealer I was. As soon as I said I'm not he dropped it like a hot potatoe. Never did get back to me on who I could get the parts from either. Oh well. Use google to find the part numbers it is out there.

Woops this was for the 500 not the 590 sorry guys

Best deal I ever saw was around $550 on the EE and the worst ones are around $1000

I've always just assumed the 5 shot 14" tube was the same length as the 5 shot 18.5"....seems wierd to make two lengths.

Part of the reason for less demand of barrel only options is the fact that the 590's come with different length fixed mag tubes so guys with the more common 20 inch model would have to get their guns customized to use a typical mossber 14" barrel.

After looking for one for a few yeasr I found a low round count minty 14" 590 from a collector a couple years ago. I haven't shot it much and considered selling it because of that fact but it always seems to go back into the cabinet.
They're great SG's......my son will probably get this one when I'm done with it.

Looking at those pictures it's pretty clear that Mossberg has 3 different length tubes for their 20,18.5 and 14 inchers.....what a pain!

The 14" is a beauty for sure!

I miss my mossberg. It was tough and reliable, and way lighter than those damn 870's :p

I would love to own a 14" one for bush carry, it wouldn't rust much at all!
