140gr Super X 708 for elk

Gday im just askin if any guys have used the Super x 140gr in 7mm 08 for elk sized game, reason being its our cheapest 708 factory ammo and elk are equivilant to the game we'l be chasing down under.

how did it perform?

Sambar Deer pal. 1500lbs... come on...

Google it, a mature Stag is in the league of a Elk bull....

not the only option on the shelf, but its the cheapest, it will b fine for Fallow(white tail) sized game an i wouldnt be affraid to put a 708 140gr behind the shoulder of a Sambar Hind, although a big mature Stag might take a bit more, it will definatley slow him up with a lung shot..

Sambar is something I've never hunted, but I'd certainly lean towards the Barnes TSX or other real big game bullet. No qualms on 7mm, but the bullets they load in those super X loads are abismal soft lead cup and core jobbies. Of course, they'll do the job, there's just much better out there, and one premium box is plenty for both a sight in and the hunt.

I think you can still get a partition from Federal.Also a Barnes and a bonded style bullet, all of which would work with proper shot placement.

May be pricey for factory loads though.
 
gday lads, went into the gun store with the cousin whos buyin the 708, the federal blue box are same price, we're goin to use them until they fail, seem like the 150gr fed will do the number!!

of course photos on maiden hunt with his 7m but it will b a month or more off yet..

there is the accubond an stuff but its a little out of his budget for now until we're proven that a 150gr fed wont do the job :)
