So why now are they enforcing this policy I know it's been on the books for years but what happened to start them to enforce it .The new RO for Winona and Ceder Springs came to the range Saturday when we were shooting and we were informed they were starting to enforce this as well as other policies .He was a nice guy and very helpful but when I asked why now all the changes he just smiled and wouldn't say only that this is how it's going to be from now on and they may be doing all kinds of new things at Winona as well as reduce the distence to 400m which they have been talking about for years .

That's strange.... all kinds of range cancellations are happening to us ORA members ! What a strange coincidence. I wanted to practice at 1000 yards this 24-25 Jun weekend at Mons Range and now I just read in the ORA website that that practice ain't happening. Bummer.

At least I can say that I've been to a couple of ORA events like the 3 Gun match and the Service Rifle match so I ain't too angry about not getting my $ 250 membership's worth this season.

Like the pregnancy epidemics in Collingwood, Ontario, maybe the range banning (155 gr bullets) and the cancellations are an epidemic......

not sure why but sure has made my life hell having to gather firearm info from my group so their guns can be templated to see if they can be used on the range .not to mention getting all my first aid certs and RO certs this is for sure our last year at Winona we've shot there since 1992 without a hitch now for whatever reason they are inforcing old laws ..probably just to make ours lives hell and so we won't re book next year.i was only able to fire 25 rds last week the rest of my time i was filling out paperwork and getting a lecture from the new Ro NCO on how things are going to be from now on...

I think we were able read between the lines to get the rational behind the new restrictions... I'm sure he wouldn't come right out and say it, but I think we know who's to blame for starting this.... Wink wink nudge nudge.

"Some" people in "some" org's just don't know which side their bread is buttered on or when to shut their freakin' pie holes.

Oh.. and keep in mind that according to the range guy these rules are likely to be applied across the board. Not just Winona.

Never the less it won't stop me from shooting there. We'll just have to comply withg the regs or F*** off

SKS at 800yds???

From the ORA website:

2006 May 26

No 155’s at Winona and Cedar Springs !

Until further notice, the DND in their infinite wisdom is not allowing the use of 155’s at the Winona and Cedar Springs ranges. This means that all June dates have been canceled for Winona. The Winona June Match has been moved to Kingston on June 17-18.
Challenging the 'wisdom' of the DND is probably not going to score any points for the ORA. :(

My heart goes out to you fellas, it is hard enough to find a decent range these days at all, let alone one where you can shoot at a decent distance!:(
There have been some leqase canceellations out west as well, with clubs having to move.

Ours up here is pretty safe for the time being however, and I am going to push for a 1K firing line this winter.
Right now we go out to 500 meters.

I just finished what I hope is enough to keep the DND happy listing rifles ,barrel leagth ,grain of bullet type of rifle list of my guys red cross certs RO notices blah blah blah of yeah this is my wedding aniversary so right now my name is mud for spending the last 4 hours on the computer .I hope the rumours are wrong about the ORA being the cause of all this crap we as shooters are supposed to stick together and not screw other clubs .I use to shoot with the dcra/ora most were a good bunch but some of the older guys sure had issues .

Hi Marks 36,

I take it you, and your group don't shoot with the ORA. What is your group?
When do you shoot? Taking new members? any details?

I'm second from the left ,my group is Wentworth Vintage Arms we like to keep the membership low so it's easy to run the same guys have been at it since 1992 we do get new members sometimes but we're full right now ..sorry and I guess if things don't improve we won't bothernext year .it cost us $3600.00 for 5 dates not including insurance to put things in perpective when we started it was $35.00 each for 10 dates now it's around $150.00 depending on the guys who return we have a core group of 20 with room for 10 if we need it.we have absolutely nothing to do with the DCRA/ORA .been there done that .
