150 gr Sierra 270 for big game?

I have stayed away from Sierra bullets for big game for a long time, but have recently been hearing some pretty favourable reports.

Anyone here tried their 150 gr in the 270 for game larger than deer?

Ted, I have taken many moose with my dads Brno 270 shooting 150 grain bullets.Just as many have been taken with 130 grainers too.Blast away.........

The Game Kings and Pro Hunter are the ones I have been hearing about. I wonder what the difference is between them and the older 150s Sierra made?

I have several boxes of the older ones. I know they will work fine on sheep, goats, and smaller caribou, but am wondering about heavier stuff like mountain caribou and moose.

Yes ,a lot of Sierra's were used as well as some Hornady,Speer and Power Point Winchester.

A friend of mine took a mtn caribou early in august with a 270 win 150gr sierra, it killed the bou but came completely unglued.He said they always worked on whitetail back home, so he was alittle surprised when we saw how it blew up.

Berger's Vld's are match bullets with awesome kill capabilities (as I've heard). I just loaded some 175gr. VLD's for an '06 with awesome range accuracy results that will match those of Sierra's. Thus far, and as far as I'm concerned, Sierra performs well on the range but seems to lack on knock down power. Another thing that I've notice about Sierra bullets is that they seem to be very inconsistent in their "cropping" the end of their varminter bullets. To my experience, Berger seems to offer a similar bullet but with much higher quality standards.

Ted, why not "no it's not a pun" ....go for the true and tested Barnes TSX, they will drop your meat? I've heard so and so stories about Sierra bullets. They do hit home, but their performance on large game can be so and so. Just what I been hearing anyways...

Well Ted, I don't speak with a whole lot of personal experience on these bullets. I do know that they shoot ragged holes in paper. My buddy Barry lost a 5x5 mulie to them in 2003. He says it was a complete pass thru. That's all I can say.

So basically you are going on hearsay information and making recommendations based on that?

There are also stories I've heard about poor results with Barnes. Should I believe those stories and avoid the fabled Hammer-Of-Thor Barnes X?

When I was purchasing bullets to conduct tests with, I was very impressed by the cost of those Sierras. If they function well in testing, I will not hesitate to use them. And as I said, I know some boys that have used them on multiple moose and deer with excellent results.

shot 3 bears and a muledeer with .270 150gr Gamekings in a 270win. ranges 150 - 270yrds. all were one shot drops, like a lightening bolt. extremely accurate bullets.

thats the good. the bad:

EXPLOSIVE. never found more then a fragment. core seperation and fragmentation on a v-max scale. all were lung shots, and while the quaters were fine, the ribs were jelly.

Spoke with "Paul" at Sierra a few days ago. He says the Game King boat tail and Pro Hunter flat base are the same bullet they have in made for years, only in new packaging.
