1500 for a sporterized Johnson?

No, it isn't. I'm no expert though I do a lot of online firearm shopping. Interested to see how it goes, maybe we'll have a new market value.

EDIT: It isn't normal because they don't come along everyday, it's a vague description and if Bubba cut it up it's not worth $1500 IMHO

A complete unmodified one seems to go around $1800-$2000 nowadays. There was a modified one at Bud Haynes auction last winter that went for around $800-$1000 or so if I recall correctly.

In this day and age it only takes one guy with a bit of cash and desire to change the market. A British Enfield #32 scope with it's mounting bracket and can just went for over $3100 on ebay. Want to bet we'll see a bit higher reserve on the next ones that come up?

I'm looking at Stoeger's 1997 Gun Trader's Guide (20th edition), and it shows the value for the Johnson Sporting Rifle Prototype. There were less than a dozen made, the guide states. Value listed at $ 11,000.00 USD

The military Johnson is value listed at $ 1295.00 USD.

Spartans, was that one of the ones Winfield modified after the war for the commercial market or something Johnson Automatics did prior to the war?

Stoeger lists it as produced by Johnson Automatics, Inc. of Providence, RI.

Johnson Sporting Rifle Prototype

"Same general specifications as the military rifle except fitted with a sporting stock with checkered grip and forend. Blade front sight; receiver peep sight. Less than a dozen made prior to World War II." (page 258 of Gun Trader's Guide 1997, 20th Edition.

This is all that is listed. I don't have a scanner set up to show the page though. Hope that helps.

In 2005, a Johnson prototype (1 of 12) sold for $23,000.00 USD at RIA.
