150g vs 174/180g .303 brit for target shooting?

Wondering what peoples experience with 150 grain 303 bullets for general target shooting. Out to around 500 meters. I have loaded Sierra 180 gamekings and have a box of 174 MK but these are nearing a buck a peice and I've noticed the 150g options are cheaper.

I'm looking to order maybe a thousand or two to keep me going for a while, as I keep buying smaller lots only to have them become unavailable or skyrocket in price.

I do have a box of Hornady 150g sst bullets I bought a while ago I could try, but these seem to be discontinued so don't want to go through developing a load only to no longer be able to find them.

Second question is how do they perform for hunting over the heavier options? I could load up the hornadys as a batch of hunting rounds and not be too concerned with availability as 80 rounds after load development is a lot of hunting seasons.

I have been using the speer 150 gr sp for my range days. When those became harder to find I moved to the PPU 150 gr fmj for range fun, and shoot out to 500m on a regular basis. In fact I had it out last weekend and mounted a new scope on, and wanted to get some dope going out to 500.

Now that the speer are plentiful again I'll have to stock up a bit.

Haven't had a chance to take it hunting yet, so no data there.
 
For factory ammo I find the 150gr S&B sp to be pretty good in two no.4’s, I’ve shot a couple wt deer with them as well and they work as well as any other cup and core .303 I’ve used on deer.
 
Might pick up some Hornady 150g interlocks and give them a try. 30 bucks cheaper per box.

I wish they continued the SST .303 bullets. From what I read they are very accurate and great on game.
 
All of the 303 Brit rifles I shoot including a custom Mauser 98, like the Speer Hot Core fbsp and if cost is an issue, they're cheaper than any other maker.

Budget, a banner supporter has them in stock and ships next day.
 
Flat base bullets have worked better in most Enfield rifles I loaded for. And generally the heavier bullets shot better but some rifles did ok with 150gr, too.
 
My gun loves 180gr PPU soft points. Often shoots MOA groups. They're spritzer boat tails, should be good to go for long range.
