Does anyone shoot 150gr in their SKS?

I am curious to know if there are powders that are good or bad for cycling and any other concerns.

I am about to get a pile of corrosive 123gr Russian ammo for fun but since I have so many 303 rifles I would consider reloading the same 150gr pill for both if it is actually doable with the SKS.

The Hornady manual load data developed for the 7.62x39 cartridge utilized an SKS rifle. I've used Reloder7, which is one of the listed powders, and 150gr bullets. Cycles fine and kills deer quite dead.

Sweet, I do not have any modern manuals, I go online to IMR and a like for data and nobody has details on the actual guns, I guess my worry is that something like the Garand problems also exist with the SKS.

New to this caliber, gun was a gift, going to be fun.

I once had a box of 150 gr round nose 303 bullets. I found these were perfect for the SKS because they were shorter than a spitzer.

I don't think anyone makes a round nose 150 gr .312 now.

The Hornady load data is for their 123gr .310" diameter bullet and their 110gr, 130gr and 150gr .308" diameter bullets. I get fair accuracy using .308 bullets in any of my 7.62x39 rifles including the SKS. My die set has 2 expander balls, a .311 and a .308.

Cool, I will slug the bore then and see how tight it is, I have some 30/06 MFS crap that needs to be broken down for components, may be a way to see how 150gr .308 bullet fair in this thing.

I have a partial box of old Norma 130gr .311 that shot pretty good from a CZ527 IMR 4198.....if your die set doesn't have two expander buttons you can usually get away with removing the entire stem when resizing so there will be enough neck tension to hold a .308 bullet...Harold
