Anybody try 357Mag/38Spl cast or jacketed bullets in the 358 Winchester? Particularly interested if anyone has experience with 158 gr bullets as they seem most common for bulk pistol bullet availability. Sounds fun to push a pistol bullet to its maximum velocity limits. But will it work in the 358 Win?

How did it turn out? Accuracy? What was your twist? Care to share your load data?

Thanks very much!

.357 pistol bullets work great for plinking loads in the .358 Winchester. Mine is a stainless laminate BLR takedown. I use Blue Dot with Hornady 158gr XTP bullets and get a muzzle speed around 1500 fps with respectable accuracy. Check out Speer Reloading Manual No.12 for higher speed loads with pistol bullets in the .358 Win.

I use 000 buck (.36 balls) I got from cutting up some shotgun shells, using 4 grs of Titegroup, I get 1" groups at 50 yds. perfect for gophers in my 350 rem mag.

I push them through a 357 sizing die or you can load them directly a small amount of lead will get sheared off

I'm happy to hear there are some accounts of success out there for the pistol bullets. For my next project I'd like to get a 225-250gr. mold for shooting full house cast loads. I'm hoping the rifle will also be able to accurately shoot 158's as a reduced load as well as at ''full speed''. I guess I want it all, doubtful at best. The Hodgdon on line data doesn't go down as low as 158, only to 180gr so I was curious if shooting the pistol bullets could be done. I'm considering reboring or rebarreling to a twist of my choice, not sure what that twist should be. Any more advice or past experience would be great.

i would be if i had a 358 winchester that's for sure, i sized some berry's 158gr down to .329 to use in my styer m95 but haven't had a chance to fire any of them.

I shoot 158 cast SWC over 14.0 gr. Trail Boss in .358 Win... nice small game/plinking load.

I loaded some for my .35 Whelen with 2400 powder. I dont remember the charge weight off hand. No reason you cant do the same for the .358 Win or .35 Rem. for that matter.
