I have a factory 16" barrel for my 100/22 and I love the look of it. Not too short, not too long. To my eye, it's perfect.

Trouble is, it doesn't seem to like the Winchester 555 bulk ammo that shoots so well in my other .22s. I know this seems like a stupid reason to look for another 16" barrel, but it'd be really convenient for me if all my rimfires "liked" the same ammo.

So, first question, do you have a factory 16" barrel on your 10/22 that shoots 555 bulk ammo well? If so, maybe I just need to roll the dice and pick up a different one.

Second, where can I get a standard tapered aftermarket 16" barrel? I know Dlask does 16" bull barrels, but I'd much prefer to have a "skinny" one.

Thanks!

Dlask sells the SR22 factory contour barrel I believe, which is .750. Just a bit thicker than the OEM ruger barrel IIRC.

Edit: from the looks of it they are only available in 12.5" lengths

First, you may go through a lot of barrels before you find one that likes that ammo. It is much cheaper and easier to simply keep stock on a couple brands/types of ammo to keep your rifles happy.

That said, Mystic Precision can get both Shilen and McGowan barrels in various lengths/profiles.

No guarantees but...

The DLask shoots the 38 grain hollow point American Eagle like match grade ammo on my 10/22. I seem to recall that it was designed to shoot 36 grain hollow point ammo well.

Probably your best bet. But as you know there are no guarantees which ammo a barrel will like.

Bits of Pieces sells Green Mountain barrels, which are probably the value leader for aftermarket barrels. Might not shoot your preferred ammo any better, either, but they should have the length and profile you want. Their 17" heavy taper (.920 to .750) is supposed to be one hell of a tack driver for a nice price. Mine is in the mail.

YHM does make a 16" sporter contour but I dont think any were imported into Canada. Green Mountain does too and you can get them from bits of pieces. On another note, there is a member who chambers barrells specifically for one type of ammo. I dunno if he does barrels for others but he had excellent results with it. Another option is calling Dlask to ask if they would make you one at the length you want. Didnt Lecter mention they test all their barrels with cheap bulk ammo?

I was told and I know it was posted by Dr. Lector, that Dlask barrels are designed to shoot all bulk ammo like match ammo ... but stay away from the Blazers and Stingers(?) if you do use one.
