16" A2 vs. M4

Also worthy of note is that the hammer and trigger pins of some Colt receivers (not just large pivot pin ones either) take non-standard pins.

My Match HBAR (AR15A2 HBAR) has large pivot pin AND large hammer and trigger pins.

That being said, the Colt is a quality product despite weird pin sizes.

And now for the Clarica advisor.

Call Wolverine
Order 14.5" M4 stepped barrel
Order flattop upper, either Armalite of Daniel Defence, they have both in stock
Take parts to competent smith and swap over...voila! An AR15 type carbine that bears and outward appearance to an M4

Everyone here knew what you meant but felt they needed to impress you with nomencalture and technical prowess. It's that whole clip vs. magazine arrogance again.

Are the Armalite 14.5" M4 barrels chrome lined? I thought I had read somewhere that they don't usually chrome their barrels. Just curious.

Very early ones were not, for the last two years Armalite barrels are chrome bore and chamber 5.56 nato, with what is sometimes termed a Govt. profile (skinny under the handguards) M4 step cut, .750 at the sight/gas block, these are very good barrel and super accurate. The only complaint I have repeatedly stated is the use of two different sizes of straight pins, if these were taper pinned sights they would be the heat.

You can, but you have to legally export them from a Canada-friendly third party reseller in the US or europe. WAY too much hassle for receivers and barrels and sometimes bolts too.

Actually, I think people here genuinely want to help the man understand the issue better so he can make an informed decision. Over-siplification rarely helps anyone learn anything.

I was under the impression that it was extremely difficult if not impossible to get any Bushmaster or Colt less than 16" across the border. I guess that shows what I know... :)

Think I got it guys, thanks. More or less, I need a 14.5" select fire m16. Maybe one day.

It IS virtually impossible if you try and get them from Colt or Bushy. You have to get a US retailer to agree to do it (without Colt or Bushy knowing) amd get hime to apply for all the State dept. export pemits, etc.

Just not worth it as it doubles to cost of the bbl to jump through all the hoops, etc.
