I have found myself falling for this great shotgun gauge all over again. It has become my favourite Pheasant and bunny load. Does anyone no who still makes 16 ga. 2 3/4" 1 1/8 oz., 3 1/4 dram loads? All I seem to find are dirty old Remington's in 1 oz 2 1/2 dram. Somebody must make the good stuff still.

Many ammo companys are getting back on the 16ga band wagon. I beleive you can find what you are looking for.

Where are you located? I may have some vintage stuff that heavy.

I own several 16's and shoot them regularly, but I roll my own, which is much much cheaper than current prices.

Can I ask what type of firearm you are shooting?

I don't shoot anything that stout in any of my 16's.

The little guns sure are addictive though. Enjoy.

16 gauge ammo

Kent have a very nice 1 oz load in either 6 or 7 1/2 with their Diamond shot, don't know what part of the country you are in but there is a good selection of other 16 gauge ammo at P&D in Edmonton. FS

Remington has the Express loaded at 1 1/8 oz 3 1/4 dram load as does Winchester branded Super X. Federal has the same branded "Hi power" SIR carries the Remington Express loading. These are often more common than the "game loads" you see in discount stores. Long live the 16!

cheers Darryl

I am a Maritimer stuck in Ontario. I will try the Kents.Actually I think they are called Gamebore. I like to use the 1 oz. for the first barrel and the 1 1/8 for the second.

The gun is a Lochet (Belgiun) sxs.

Kent make their Traditional "Ultimate Upland" 2&3/4 in 1oz available in 6 & 7.5 @ 1200 fps in 16 ga
They also marker their Gamabore line in a 2&1/2" shell designed to be shot in older guns at lower pressures. These are made & imported from their England plant.
16 ga is my go to guns for trap, skeet, sporting clays & hunting in 1 oz & 7/8 oz. I shoot 16's better than 12's and find that they seem to hit targets harder. Besides 16 gauge guns are SUPER COOL!
Cheers.

Your right on all counts Grouser. Except for the small Munsterlander pointer. Poor choice of dog. Get a Vizsla. Cheers

I found a case of Federal "Game Shok" rigged up with 1 oz. of 6-shot at 2 1/2 drams.

I've got 3 1/4 dram loads in 7 1/2 as well as 4-shot, but they're left over from my first romance with 16 gauge.

A Vizsla Is a Hungarian breed great dogs. Don't shoot the Munsterlander. After all they do taste a little gamey.

Sorry for the hijack guys , but I shoot a 16 Lefaucheux that my friend refitted for me with new hinge pins and stuff to tighten it back up.
It was my Grandfather's main gun, when he hunted he had ball in one side and birdshot it the other ( damascus barrels! )
Dad said he would cringe every time gramps would light tha thing up!!
I use brass cases and bl;ack with it, with a 1oz. shot charger,
works great!:dancingbanana:

I saw my first Vizla in the late 60's , a very good looking dawg, but I am not too sure how the do up hhere for a gun dawg.
This is Lab and Chessy country ( cold AND wet!)

win/64, I find it interesting that you can't find the heavy loads for your 16 - I have the opposite problem here in Saskatchewan, nobody seems to stock 1 oz upland / target loads. I use 1 oz. of lead shot for all my hunting over pointing dogs - ( a Pudelpointer in my case) I think most people tend to "over feed" their shotguns. A 16 ga. performs best with it's "square load" of 1 oz, going about 1200 - 1250 fps, and not larger than #5 shot. I only use those heavier 1-1/8 oz lead loads for December pheasant and windy-day sharptails. I found out this year that handloads of 1 oz. of #2 bismuth work OK for Lesser Canadas at 15-40 yds over decoys. I use the Kent Impact 1-1/16 oz. #5 Tungsten Matrix for ducks, and they are the best i've found for that purpose.

I'm with you on the 16-bore. I've got a Wingmaster in 16 ga -- great for upland, and I wished there were more bismuth or other soft non-tox loadings for it for waterfowl. You'll find lots of info here:

http://16ga.com/

You may want to reload since it'll give you more options.

Longwalker:I only use the heavy loads in the second barrel(as a follow up). The light loads are hard to find here too seems the only ones that are stocked are Remington's Will be ordering some Gamebores in the future. Cheers
