Hi all was wondering if someone could tell me if old Canuck and Imperial 16 ga shotshells would have any sort of value over regular store pricing.
Thanks for any in put. The boxes are even still in good shape some almost like new.

They have a bit of collector interest in nice boxes, but I have had trouble getting much more than the price of a new box of 16 gauge shells in a gun show..

I use them for hunting upland birds and rabbits. They aren't worth as much as modern ammo to me. They often don't pattern as well as modern shells, and seem to be loaded hot so they kick more than usual. I paid $10 a box for my last few boxes of imperial 16 ga.

They have a more open pattern but the old guns are generally a full or tighter choke, works great in old guns, my go to grouse load is #5 CIL paper hulls.

I use those shells in a really old 16 gauge single shot full choke. Guys sell them at gun shows for $15 / box, considering it's hard to find 16ga for less lately. Maybe some Federal 16g at Cantire you can get around the same price.

One shell I've been liking is those expensive golden pheasant copper plated 16ga in #6 for grouse. If you blast a bird right through the body, you're not getting those feathers stuck in the meat and usually the pellets zip right through.

I just shoot them. You can find old canuck and imperial shells in shot sizes that are just not available in modern 16ga loads. I havent found pricing to be any different than buying new stuff. Like many, I keep the box if it's in good shape.

I got a flat, 10 boxes of 25 at a gun show for $50 :D, a whole pile of SG, #2, BB, slugs, #4,5,6, 1 -1/4oz loadings, pretty much the best 16ga score so far.

All joking aside you 16ga guys have to start reloading it
Then you can have what you want
I cannot even imagine how hard it must be to now buy factory ammo
Cheers

I have yet to see the 1 1/4oz federal on the shelf anywhere halfway local. I shot my last few 16ga turkeys with the Kent 1oz of 6s. Where were you able to find the Federals?

You are in Russel, not that far from myself. The CT in Kemptville will order it in for you for a small charge, I ordered the 2 boxes there.
The code for the #6 shot is FEDP1656, but it looks like this stopped making it, not listed in the Federal catalog anymore.

Tons of it around if you just keep your eyes open, you can also get it for the price of 12ga or 20ga loads.

Have you tried to find 16ga wads? Not that easy to find either, got myself 2 bags but one bag is the old Remington 16ga and not listed in any data now.

Lots of data for R16 wads on 16ga.com or the Yahoo 16 gauge user group.
Otherwise you need the older editions of the Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbooks .
Lawry's and Hummason have the Claybuster 16 gauge wads.

Not here other than some federal at canadian tire
As far as wads go no problem for me have pretty much any type one would want. I guess 8,000 total. The data is out there in the old lyman books. Finding good hulls are my issue
The secret is when you see them at a show buy them all and I mean them all
I made a purchase just last year of 2000 Activ from a guy and had a stash of 3500 winchester AA from when Irv's sold out plus a lot of various remington
Keeps me and my 16ga buds supplied for life
Cheers

Any time I am in a shop that actually sells shotgun reloading supplies I always look, but finding places that sell shotgun reloading supplies around here is tough.

I hear you. Real tough here also so when I do find some 16ga stuff for reloading I normally stock up
I am pretty sure hummasons in Ontario still sell remington and claybuster AA 16ga wads and they will mail them to you
I will check
Cheers

Update

No they just have the claybuster AA in 16ga

An outfit in Quebec (I have had good luck with them) stocks these wads for the 16 bore. I have used the SG16 and it is a good wad. The other I have no experience with. I think they are both made for non tapered hulls i.e.: Federal or Euro. But at least they are 16 gauge wads in Canada.

That looks a lot like the Bp trap commander but I am not sure if they make it in 16ga
Going to have to look now :)
Cheers

Yes sir they are both BP wads but they call that one the field commander
Strange for you to find BP wads in quebec. I thought Will B had BP locked down

The Bp specs

Commander 16ga wad (250/bag)
When loaded with 1-1/8 oz of nickel-plated shot, the Commander is truly a proven field performer. An easy-loading, compact wad great for both field and target. The shot capacity is just a bit larger than the standard 16-gauge wad as it is designed for longer ranges. Like the 12-gauge Z21 Trap Commander, the Z16 allows for a final nudge as the shell is closed, so loads are compressed for solid ignition. Designed for heavy 1-1/8 to 1-1/4oz loads, but it can be loaded down to 7/8oz by lightly seating the wad and using fillers.

Gas seal: arch dome, .665" diameter with three flanges, .040" thick
Overall Length: 1.5"
Seal to cup bottom: .810"
Shotcup Depth: .690"
Shotcup type: layback hinged petals
Hard crossing shots and going away shots

X-reload is the place that has BP now, they do not carry it all though, no slugs, I was really hoping to find 16ga dangerous slugs for reloading but not shipping them from Alberta.
