Did you remove the barrel retaining screw?

The screw is pointless, as a properly torqued bbl doesn't require one, but if it's in there and isn't removed when the barrel is twisted out, it will bugger the threads on the barrel..... pretty much as you describe...

So far I have only ever encountered one receiver that had pooched threads....

I left the screw in for cosmetic purposes... The threads on the barrel were sheared off when th norc barrel was put on. I cleaned up the screw between the threads of the receiver, screwed on the UsGi barrel and the threads end before the barrel and teceiver faces meet. Just curious how hard it is to re tap the receiver or ...

Way easier to get someone to mill off the last bit of thread on the barrel than to cut thread in a receiver.
Just take it to any machine shop and have them turn down the last thread.
Be like a 5 min job, but they'll probably charge you a 1hr minimum, so 60-80 bucks.

Also, take that screw out! Cosmetically it's ugly as S$#! and as John said, COMPLETELY useless.
