Even a noob in "great" shape? :)

Go to the Rand McNally bookstore and buy one of those backroad provincial forestry maps - that will help you out. Maybe when you ask an old fat hunter to show you the ropes, start the conversation by telling him what great shape you are in, and see if that helps.

I kid.

I like waterfowling alone, don't find it too much production for one guy. Kind of peaceful until the ducks show up
 
Hunt the right habitat, the birds will be there. 99.9% of the grouse prior to a few years ago I shot with 22 on the road or in the ditch so I was quite clueless at actually hunting them as well, this video and a few others improved my on foot success dramatically. Worth a watch,

 
The other option would be to let it be known that you are looking for a hunting partner or to join a group, new but willing to pay for your share of expenses and full of vitamins to do whatever work needs doing. (Were it not for a strong son, I might consider an 'apprentice' - very handy when hauling meat out of the bush.)

Where? Gun stores, guys (and some gals) you know to be hunters of any sort, a new thread here in CGN, other websites centred on Alberta hunting, etc.

Dont take the ihunt app for gospel when it comes to regulations. I use the the actual regs. If you can’t find a printed copy to carry with you in your vehicle or pack you can download the online pdf easily. Good luck with your season and don’t get discouraged. Just as in anything else we do personalities have to click to form partnerships in hobbies, work etc.

Seems so Jehova-like and I simply will not do it so I gotta stick to crown land. I been to Forestry Trunk Road last 3 weekends, didn't see one single grouse and I covered 10-12 km in all directions. So I think I'm done with that place.

I'm not sure what the grouse hunting is like, but you could take Hwy 22 south to 532, then go west towards / past the the Indian Graves area. I've seen hunters walk by my while I've been fishing at Bear Pond in the fall before. Crown land starts not too far from Hwy 22 heading west.
 
When i first moved to Alberta I joined the Sarcee Fish and Game Association in Calgary, met a whole bunch of people, got involved in some habitat projects, met some farmers and ranchers and before you know it people are asking to go hunting with you !! Any of the fish and game clubs are full of people happy to tell you where to go....I mean that in the nicest way.
 
Dragging deer, moose, bear or any large game out of the Bush is total different workout in itself. Staying in shape is paramount, no tapping out in the woods. Train Hard, Hunt Hard.
