Hey all. I noticed I don't have a 16ga in my collection. I know the ammo is expensive and a 12ga is better but I have the 10ga 12ga 20ga 28 and 410. So I need to complete them. What is everyone shooting for a 16 as I'm looking for ideas as to what to get next

I have just joined the 16 ga club. I have a Remington model 11 (circa 1939 copy of the Browning Auto 5) shoots like a 12 ga carries like a 20 ga.

I am not a good one to ask since I love them all but I go for my 16ga wingmaster with the VR short barrel and choke tubes normally or my BPS again with the short barrel and upland stock. In 16
have five wingmasters 16ga
tw0 bps, one hunter on field stock
one model 12
one ithaca 37
one sxs
two 1100 rem

12ga is better, not in my mind LOL

You can get some nice old SxS's in 16ga, as well as 870 Wingmasters, Model 12's, Cooey Single Shots and Tradex even has some combo guns.

All good guns, depends what you like. I have a Voere combo, 16ga over .222rem!!

Hate to tell you,but if your guns are all different brands, then your collection is only complete if you have all the gauges in each of the brands.:p Gives you an excuse to keep buying. By the way , I just happen to know someone who has a 1934 Winchester model 12 16 gauge for sale on this forum right now.:D

i shot more deer with the 16g slug then any other shot gun . i just love them . faster then a 12g slug and just as deadly on deer great littel bunny and bird gun as well . and shells are not any more money then any other realy DUTCH

You are right Dutch, I was looking at some 16ga federals last night at canadian tire for only 12.99 a box for No.6 lead.
That is not bad

I have several. My favourite is my 1969 vintage Remmy 1100 with 28" MOD plain barrel. It is on a 12 gauge frame but it is still under 7 lbs. I also have a RARE Mossy 500 in 16 gauge. Cool gun and the 28" FULL throws bismuth handloads well. Look to the used classics, ie: REM 870, Ithaca 37, Remmy model 11 and 1100. The good old Stevens 311 in 16 bore is sweet also. The prices asked for Browning Auto 5 in 16 is outrageous and they are not a heck of a lot nicer than the Remmy 11.

Couple 16 gauge M 12's in my gun safe. Built on a 20 gauge frame, very light and well balanced. Ammo selection sucks, as much or more than 12 gauge ammo. One of those gauges where reloading pays big dividends but no decent hulls availabe since Winchester discontinued making their compression formed 16 hull. Still my favorite gauge to shoot though but today on a limited basis

Unless you reload, a 16ga can get quite pricey for regular shooting. But for grouse I've found a source of #6's at Cdn Tire for 12.95 a box. I'm slowly stocking up on those for a lifetime worth of game getting but there's no "fun" shooting yet. I'm also saving my hulls.

Hi Ahsan. This is the upland I have in 16. The 16ga hunter has a 28" barrel and is 7 pounds 2 ounces. I love the short barrel and upland stock. The specs say 24" but to me it measures 23"??

Yep, the Upland Spl.....the advertised weight with 24in bbl is 6lbs 13oz (same as the 20ga with 22in bbl)....however, I have never found such info to be completely reliable. Hence, my previous question regarding actual weight of that model?

I purchase my 16 ammo in case lots. I have purchased Remington game loads, RIO and kent upland loads at about 8.00 a box when purchased by the case. I bought every bit of Federal steel I could find when Canadian Tire was unloading it a year or two ago. When in a shop and you see 16 ammo ask the dealer if a bulk purcahse would sweeten the price a little. I bet it would.

I had a BPS field model in 16 bore with 26" barrel. The LOP was seemed long for me. I figured it out when I compared it to my Ithaca 37. The Browning receiver was substantially longer resulting in the for e arm being further from the grip. With bottom ejection you can't put your hand too far to the rear of the forearm. It results in failure of the fired round to clear the receiver. Overall I liked the BPS it just did not fit me.

I am a big fan of 16's and own 17 of then -- my favorites are:
Beretta Silver Hawk SxS
Merkel O/U
Merkel SxS
2-Browning Auto 5'S -- One of which is for sale.
It's an addiction!

I have not actually weighed it but I would say the 6 13 is right. When they 1st introduced that gun in 16 it was listed as going to be 7 pounds 6 ounces. I think that was the only data that was not reliable, browning later came back and said that was a mistake.
Lets just say it is lighter than a vintage 16ga wingmaster with a 26" barrel.

Mine is a Parker GH on a 0 frame(16 ga).
