The 17 Fireball is a new cartridge that I wasn't aware of until today.
I thought my friend was talking about the 17 Remington. I tried to look it up in my "Cartridges Of The World" but the round is newer than the 2003 version I have in my library.
Then like the younger generation I Goggled it, quite the little round.
He said he owned a 17 Fireball for a while and he didn't have time to reload for another caliber.
He has decided to keep shooting his 223s to simplify his reloading.

We did some trading and in the deal he left 80 rounds of fired brass, and 10 primed new brass which I have no use.

17 Fireball is not new, it has been around for a long time. The original wildcat was 17 Mach IV which is close enough to the Fireball version the two are interchangeable. I use a 17 Mach IV sizing die to load for my 17 Fireball rifle.

If you want to get rid of any fired brass I'd happily buy them from you.

17 Fireball brass is very hard to find, you have no problem selling it. I have a 17 Fireball and a good supply of brass so I have noticed lots of WTB ads in the EE, and no I will not sell any of mine.

I much prefer the 17FB to the 17rem. The quality of the 17FB brass isn't all that great, so many people including myself simply neck down good quality 221FB brass.

Doesn't the 17 Remington have a gain of 300 FPS? My Cooper slings 25 grain bergers at 4150 with ease, lotsa dead dogs down. I always thought it was far superior??? Stubblejumper could you please clarify your opinion thanks bud

I run the 25gr v-max at 3800fps in my Cooper, which is slower than the 17rem, but it doesn't heat up nearly as quickly, and it fouls much less than the 17rem, which is an advantage for shooting ground squirrels. My load is shooting sub 1/2moa for five shots, so I am not trying for more velocity.

I have no issue shooting .35 MOA consistently most groups are 1 ragged hole at 100 yards....HD5 3-15x50 Gotta love the coops.. I only shoot 1-3 shots max calling per stand. Thanks my friend

I am still fire forming cases, so I don't what just how good the accuracy will get with fireformed cases, but at sub 1/2moa while fireforming, I am very content. I use the 17FB for long range ground squirrels, so heat is a concern, and in hot weather, the 17Hornet is an even better choice. My Cooper in 20 Tactical gets used for coyotes, because I prefer the 39gr blitzkings at 3900fps over the 17cals for coyotes, especially at longer ranges. Both rifles, as well as my Cooper in 20 Vartarg, and my Coopers in 17Mach2 and 17HMR all wear the HD5 3-15x42Lockplex. The same scope is waiting for my Cooper in 17Hornet, which should arrive any day now.

Released by Remington a few years ago.
I recall it at one of the SHOT shows.

Actually nine years ago, in 2007.

I had a 700 VSSF II for a bit, nice little cartridge. I mainly shot 25gr Berger Target over IMR 8208xbr. 3850 fps
