.17 for coyotes?

I know a guy who uses it for predator calling, he has great success, and keeps his shots inside a stern personal limit of 200. Personally, I wouldn't, I'd go .223 and get the extra bullet weight. .223 with 45 or 50gr varmint bullets puts them down well, .17 you need to be an extreme marksman, as you're relying on a small wound channel, however devasted the wound area may be. I've seen the results of high velocity .17, impressive, but limited wound tract.

use enough gun

I really feel the 17 Rem is just not enough gun, I moved up to 55gr FMJ out of my Bee as the 35 grainers was not knocking down coyotes and wolves the way I feel they should, mind you I would love to see the 17 on a gopher or a beaver, my two bits keep your stick on the ice

wondering how the remington .17 centerfire does against coyotes. just looking to see if anyone has one and how do they perform and at what distances. appreciate any info.

I bought one this fall. I have got it to shoot 1/2" groups. But cant seem to find a coyote to co-operate with me to test it out! Trust me a 17 Remington is definatly a coyote round. Check out this site out for some info on the 17. coyotegods As far as range, as long as the wind isnt howling, 300 yards tops, if you are comfortable with it, and shot placement is everything. Behind the shoulder in the lungs and they will flop over.

You dont live too far away from me, you can shoot mine if you like.

A man of my tastes, a Bee, what gun is yours in? Just found my No.1 .218 :)

killer bee

I have a Bee in the wonderful Ruger No1 and a Custom Martini 218K Bee thats like a bee on the juice. Hodgen Lil Gun turns that old girl into just about a 223. I live a the top end of the province and have to use a small mag rifle primer to get things a hummin when it dips down to the low minuses. If there is the opportunity to get a multiple shot ie wolves on the lake I use a 6.5x55 with 85grain bullets that I seal with apoxy turns them into a fmj real quick. At 50 bones a dog I cannot afford to screw it up. Peace from the true north country.

Real men fly float planes!

I know there are some who would claim that the 17 rem is the ONLY coyote round. I'd still go with something bigger if it were me though

I`ve shot lots of coyotes with my 17-222 which is darn close to a 17 Rem. Never had one get away on a broadside shot out at 250 yards. That being said I`d agree a 223 to be better. Also a 204 does the trick :)
