17 heavy barrel

bought one for my son and sales stated that may need extra height rings could you all let me know what you have used.

Depends on how big your optics are. The larger the objective lens, the taller your rings will have to be.

What model .17 you buy? My 93r17 I bought higher/taller bases which was cheaper than new rings.

I use high rings with a 4-16x50mm scope on my .17HMR

For my 93R17-FV I inititally bought a Tasco Target/Varmint scope, but the wide objective lens combined with its even wider adjustable ring meant I would have had to buy very tall rings. I returned the scope and bought one with a smaller objective; medium height rings ended up working.

I have a 93R17-FV with a 3.5-10 x 36mm with AO. Weaver mediums would NOT clear the barell as I found out the hard way. I now have that scope in high rings. I then bought a 6-16 x 40 Tasco for my MKII-FV which has the same barell profile, and "cleverly" bought the high rings along with it. Much to my dismay, that baaaaaaaaaarely wouldnt clear the scope, and I wound up using extra high rings. So be very careful as these rings are not cheap. The weaver high rings say right on the package "good up to 40mm" but the heavy barell and the AO made it too low to work with even a 36mm scope. There are also other manufacturers other than weaver whos rings may have different dimensions just to add to the confusion.

when i bought my 93r17 i had medium rings with a 3-9x40 scope and then i upgraded to a 6-24x42 and had to go with extra high rings. works great
