I just purchased a Ruger 10 22 and was looking at the Volquartsen website to see about the various goodies to upgrade. They sell a conversion to .17 HM2 which from what I have researched so far is a necked-down .22LR round. To convert you need the ".17 MACH 2 CNC Machined Bolt" as well as a ".17 Mach 2 barrel", according to Volquartsen website.

This sounds like a really worthwhile conversion but a search of the various sponser websites shows nobody is selling this ammo yet, unless I am mistaken.

Does anyone have experience with this round? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Or perhaps this is too new and has not made it to Canada yet.

Do a search on 17hm2 on this forum you'll see lots of information, its not new in canada by any means.

Prophet River usually has some ammo or will put your name on a list to order some.

Prophet River sold over 300,000 rounds last year, and is bringing in 500,000 rounds this year.

Myself and many others on this forum own 17Mach2 rifles.I have actually owned three rifle chambered in 17Mach2.I had a converted 10/22 myself, but I sold it after reading about case ruptures when the 17Mach2 cartridge is used in semi auto rifles.Several companies that used to sell the conversions,no longer sell them for this reason.

it's such an accurate round I prefer the bolt action rifles for it-always 1 shot 1 kill for gophers-and i just have my 7 loaded mags in case there is tons of them running around !!

Waiting for costco to open i thought I'd kill 20 minutes or so at WSS and walked out with a NIB Marlin 917M2 for $129. Great-just what I didn't need...:sniper:

I own two Mach 2's and one is the converted Ruger 10/22. I have had no issues with it and over 3000 rounds through it. I believe that most of the case rupturing occured earlier on when people were converting them without the properly wieghted bolt.

Either way the Mach 2 is an way under appreciated round that you will find fun to shoot and ammo is realitively inexpensive for what you get out of the round.

Where can a guy find one of those Marlins? I was searching today for one.
