I moved from Onterrible to kebekistan in 2018, I used to shoot groundhogs every weedend during spring and summer. I kinda stopped hunting groundhogs in quebec because there isn't as many here, I used to kill 20 of them during weekends, it was just my routine.
I sold my 22-250 to fund a project and never bought another varmint gun. And then came that one collegue with groundhogs on his property. Other guys told me about his pest problem, especially since he his vegetable farming. The guy would set up cages to relocate them. I got excited and I asked to come by to shoot some.
Before coming to his property, he told me he had neighbours nearby so no center fire rifle. I thought about it knowing that I just bought a CZ 455 in 22 lr with a 17 HMR barrel so the 17 HMR would be perfect. I just had to sight in the 17 HMR wich was 6.25 in high at 90m compared to the 22 lr. 24 clicks down and I was in business.
I saw one groundhog, I tried to approach it but it went down it's hole. I saw another one but there was houses in my line of sight so I circled back to have a chance to pull the trigger. He went down his hole too... I was going to my truck when the groundhog popped back up, prone position I went and it was quickly in my scope. My index touched the trigger too fast and I missed to the left. This was a reminder to increse my trigger pull with my yodave spring kit because it's way less than 16 oz. An air trigger has it's cons...
I had a great day and next time I pull the trigger it's gonna be DRT, I love varmint hunting.
