17 HMR .. opinions on the round, and where to buy.

My 455 Canadian shoots almost everything super accurately; point of impact moves up or down depending on the type of ammo.

Only one I would stay away from is Federal; a half dozen guys at our club found it not only terrible for accuracy, but frequently had split cases. So did I. No other ammo did this.

The 455 is as good as any and better than most IMO.

It really is batch related. Winchester is very very bad for split necks. Have to use a knife to extract.
I have shot 1000 + Federal and none split. I do have a never fired Hornady vmax that is split. Go figure.

As far as I know there are two manufacturers of 17 HMR...CCI and Winchester. CCI does most of the actual manufacturing for other companies like Hornady and Remington. This may have changed recently. I personally have not had any issues with the 17 HMR I have shot which included most brands. Phil.

I have two 455's. Canadian and American. Both shoot any ammo I use very well. Wickedly fast and laser trajectory. I have a good stock of ammo, mostly Hornady 17 gr.

Only bummer is the high cost of ammo. And, yes, I know you can reload the whiz bang XYZ caliber cheaper. :p
