Hey Guys

I've been a proud owner of a Savage 9317 GV for a year now. I have a Bushnell 3-9x40mm on it now but I want something to do some long range plinking and varminting. I'm considering the Cabelas Tactical in 6-18SF, the BSA sweet 17 in 6-18AO or a Bushnell Legend in 5-15AO with a mil-dot.

I am partial to Bushnells, I own several. I also like the side focus of the Cabelas scope. I have heard such mixed reviews about the BSA Im not sure if I should just steer clear to be safe. Are the BDC scopes all they're cracked up to be?

Ultimately I need a scope in that power range, between $200-$250, with a parallax adjustment.

Thanks

I just bought a bushnell 6-24 mildot for 150$ at Goble's in London ON. I'll let you know how it does on my brand new 93r17 TRR when I get it zeroed.

I have the Legend you're looking at- it's on my LH CZ .17HMR. I've actually been thinking about switching over to one of my slim and trim Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32's with 75 yard parallax. I find the 5-15x40 too large and bulky for the trim little .17. I only use it for gophers and steel gongs out to 200 yds and find that I have yet to set past 7 power or use the mildot system- a waste of length, weight, money and features for me. YMMV however...

Side note- I have a cheap little Nikko Sterling 4x32 on my .17 mach2 autoloader and don't feel the slightest bit handicapped in the gopher fields. I plan on switching out for a 4x32 Prostaff on this and my newest 10/22- love the rimfire Prostaff scopes- best bang for the buck to me! :)

I have a bushnell Elite 4.5-30x50 on my CZ varmint .17 HMR and love it. I know its a little out of your price range but to me it was worth it. If you get some gophers out there a long way you just zoom them in and let her fly. Its nice having the zoom and the clarity for those long shots, expecially with the .17 HMR.

Hey there I use the Bushnell legend 5-15 power mil dot on my savage .17hmr. Bought it on advise from CGNers and in my opinion is a great cost efficient option. At 15 power I can easily see the rounds impacting the paper and it is crystal clear. Can find them for around the 200 mark...

i'm in the market for a new scope for my .17 as well.

i have a leapers 4x9x50 on it right now, but the crosshairs drift to the right after about 25 shots.

i find with the 4x9 even at 150 yards i cant see rounds impacting at all.

i'm thinking of an 8x24x40. id like the extra zoom to find rounds in the target

is there a good canadian site to find these scopes on? everyhting ive seen is amercian so far

i just bought a barska 6x24x50 varmint scope

after sighting it in quickly at 50 yards, i shot a crow in the feild at 165 yards and its a very gusty day today.

the 16x mag is perfect for far shots, anyhting past 18 starts to get a little blurry

found it in a gun shop in kitchener for $139

I have a mueller 8.5-25x44. I like it and mil dots are nice when shhoting 17grains with anything more than a breeze.

they have better scopes, but this one came on my hmr and I've been very pleased with the clarity and it hold zero forever.

I have a couple 17's with 5-15 scopes and one with a 8-24. I only ever use the full magnification at the range, usually set it at 10 power for gopher hunting.
We had the staff shoot of the P&D employees on sunday and one of the guys has a 6-18 Sweet scope on his Savage, said he liked it a lot. FS
